Fellowship Church of Englewood’s Pastor the Rev. Garry Clark has been taking annual vacations to Colorado for 20 years in search of relaxation and inspiration to share with his congregations.
“(Clark) likes to do different things to get the word out,” said Dina Beahrs, director of public relations/outreach at Fellowship Church in Englewood. “He took his son, Mitchell, and the (church’s) technical director (Roger Johnson) with him on the trip.”
“I love Colorado,” Clark said. “I’ve kept going since I recorded my album there 20 years ago.”
Clark said he usually goes for rest and relaxation, but he spent the first week of his July vacation this year filming inspirational messages for Fellowship Church and the Lemon Bay High School football team, for which he is an assistant coach.
Clark said he visited Vail Valley and Avon, towns in Colorado.
“The mountains are incredible,” he said. “Avon is where the high Rockies are. It’s about 100 miles west of Denver. It’s very (bicycle) friendly with lots of trails.”
The theme for his filmed message for the church was “Our God is Amazing.” Mitchell joined his father in singing gospel songs a capella and his wife, Kim Clark, joined them during the trip to take photos, according to Beahrs.
“The atmosphere helped with the inspiration,” Clark said. “It helps the message when you’re out on the Rockies.”
For the LBHS football team, he said, the message was motivation-oriented and was presented during the team’s training camp.
“I talked about being the warhorse and practicing strength under control and discipline,” he said.
Fellowship Church is located at 1460 S. McCall Road, Englewood.
