BOCA GRANDE — A fire destroyed one home and damaged another on Pilot Point Lane in Boca Grande Thursday morning. There were no reported injuries.
“We were dispatched at roughly 6:35 a.m.,” said Boca Grande Fire Chief C.W. Blosser. “When our crews arrived, it was a one-structure, multistory home with flames through the roof.”
Blosser said the fire spread to the adjacent home to the north, causing some damage while crews protected the adjacent home to the south. Crews worked through the day to douse the remnants of the fire.
“There was nobody in the home that was on fire,” he said. “I don’t think there (were) any occupants on either side from what I’ve been briefed on. The one structure is so severely compromised that we need to get it knocked down and cool a little bit better. The homes are so close together.”
Blosser said crews were able to contain the blaze in 30 minutes.
“We had Englewood Fire and Charlotte Fire/ EMS who sent units and gave us mutual aid,” he said. “Their presence made it easier on us. Our initial response were two trucks and five personnel. We were very fortunate to be so close to shift change so we may have had a couple of extra guys.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
